"if u want to get to know a place, u need to go to the local market."
the market or pasar is a place where ppl would gather and exchange good, services and information. one of the most basic human interactions occur in these places. thats why, the historical origin of markets is the community hub which would develop into small communities, town and eventually cities.
this is true for most town, village, cities, or any place u could imagine. u have ur famous al-hamra (marakesh) in morocco, manama souq in bahrain, pasar seni in KL, and pasar khatijah in kota bharu.
recently, i'd went to bangsar. now ive always drove through there, but last saturday, i had the opportunity to send my grandmother to Pantai Hospital for an appointment. Since i didn't want to waste my money to park in an overcharged healthcare centre, i drove around to jalan ara/ jalan traverse to look at what is Bangsar all about (im not sure what road it was, i just mentioned the one that caught my attention). i parked at the masjid, seemed like there was a majlis pernikahan. Everybody's dressed up except me.
I noticed a few new buildings there, Bangsar One, Bangsar Village, and a the Brabus Centre. there was also a row of cute cottages, when inspected closely, they are actually individual fancy restaurants that offer expensive rare delicacies (I couldnt imagine anything else).
Like i mentioned before, i walked around there, saw a few 'omputih' jogging around town, glamorous malaysians walking around wearing skimpy outfits, and also the ever arising numbers of foreign workers. it was 10 in the morning.
Finally i found my way to the Bangsar village.. or was it Bangsar One? i couldnt tell the difference. What i wanted to share here is the presence of one grocery store called "Village Grocer" there were so many foreign foods to select from. It was like one huge toy store to me. I just wanted to pick as many ingredients up and cook what i wanted. And what i wanted at that time was... i couldnt remember.. but it was dreadfully fun to walk around and see foods that i've tasted before and to recall the nostalgia of eating and experiencing new foods. The joy of tasting. (fyi: my hobby is tasting not eating)
Bangsar is a very modern and international community in Malaysia. this is reflected by its martkets, ppl and image. so it is no surprise that Bangsar city centre or its markets is a place that u couldnt find anywhere else in Malaysia.
